smart fortwo: Past, Present & Future

Hello, smart car fans,

I have some news items for you,

1st, the past: In December, smart sold 2,341 fortwos in America, giving a grand total of 24,622 smart cars in 2008.  Incredible sales pace considering the economy slide we are in!   smart was estimating only 16,000 cars originally, but was able to meet the huge demand.

2nd, Present: smart and BRABUS have teamed up to offer BRABUS models and aftermarket accessories.  BRABUS models offer consumers enhanced exterior and interior design elements and a sports suspension.

These smart fortwo BRABUS editions build on the revolutionary smart fortwo design with a model that enhances the vehicle’s performance and styling. Drivers can choose between two BRABUS models that best suit their personal taste and lifestyle – the smart fortwo BRABUS coupe or cabriolet.

BRABUS is world renowned for providing exclusivity on wheels, and the smart fortwo BRABUS lives up to the expectations by offering exclusive design elements in a sportier package that maintains the fortwo’s hallmark fuel efficiency, fun and functionality.

3rd, Future:  The all electric drive (ED) smart fortwo is coming to America.  The fortwo-ED is rumored to arrive in 2011.  Details are sketchy, but smart is commited to the ED, with its pilot programs in London and Berlin to gain real world data on their performance and driver input.  The ED is paving the way for a non-polluting vehicle and not a moment too soon.  Imagine the U.S.  quickly ramps up renewable energies such as wind and solar and starts to convert our electricity away from fossil fuel based (coal/natural gas) and provides truly clean energy source that is used for transportation.  This is very exciting news from smart.
