Hey smart car fans….It’s coming..

Yes, smart has announced it plans for a 1000 all electric smart fortwo ED limited production in 2010. This is in preparation for a full production in 2012 with the U.S. receiving the Electric Drive (ED).

Ok, for me this is huge news….While I love my gas powered smart car, the chance to “Make Another Statement” by ending my dependency on gasoline is a tremendous opportunity to make a difference in helping to end our country’s dependency on foreign oil.

I will be anxiously waiting for the ED to arrive in America with it’s price tag. IF smart can keep the price close to what they are charging for it’s current gas powered fortwo’s, they will have a winner!

An affordable ED will open the option for commuters to seriously consider going all electric vehicle if they can go back and forth to work on one overnight charge.

Now the articles posted below state the ED will travel about 71 miles on an overnight charge. For me personally, I can live with that distance since I travel about 45 miles round trip for my commute to work.

Next, I would request my electric company to supply my electric requirements needs via renewable energy such as wind & solar.

Imagine the positive impact for our country when consumers change their driving habit’s and convert to all electric and hybrid vehicles and begin to turn the tide in ending our foreign oil dependency. Along with ending car pollution and turning the tide on global warming.

Jim, the smart Car Guy here with big persnonal news….

I pulled the trigger and bought a smart car yesterday in Salt Lake City !!

This has been in the works for about 2 weeks, but I wanted to wait till the deal was done before announcing the news here on the America-smart-Car-Guide Blog site.

Basically, my wife Kathi & I decided that we needed purchase a new vehicle to replace her mom’s Oldsmobile that is going to Austin, Texas with Kathi’s daughter.  She needs a set of wheels to get around Austin and this created a need for us consider the smart car.

We ordered a smart car last fall and it arrieved this past March, however we simply could not afford it so we had to ‘orphan it’.  I love this vehicle and everything it represents so this was a tough thing to do.

Well, I took a look at the Lindon smart center’s web site and discovered that there was a picture inventory of smart cars available on their lot.  This got the process started, next the %4.2 interest loan made this decision affordable.   Next a few emails & phone calls to David & Emily in Salt Lake City and we made the trip from Boise  and picked up our 2009 white smart passion yesterday !!

I simply love driving this car and with 400 miles on it already, I’m hooked,  It handles well on the highway and gets 40 mpg.
